Sirui Optical has announced the impending release a third anamorphic lens, adding a 24mm wide angle to its existing 50mm and 35mm lenses. The Sirui 24mm F2.8 features a 1.33x squeeze factor and an imaging circle that covers APS-C. In common with the previous lenses this model will come in a native mounts for Micro Four Thirds , Sony E, Canon EF-M, Nikon Z and Fujifilm X cameras.
When used on an APS-C sensor the lens will provide a horizontal angle of view roughly the equivalent of a 27mm lens on a full frame camera, while Micro Four Thirds users will get a view equivalent to that of a 36mm lens. APS-C sensor users should expect a desqueezed frame of 2.4:1, as will MFT users shooting 4K 16:9 format. Micro Four Thirds cameras with a 4:3 anamorphic mode though will achieve high resolution 16:9 footage with the anamorphic look.
The new lens is constructed of 13 elements arranged in 10 groups, and an 8-bladed iris. The maximum aperture at F2.8 is 1 1/3rd stops smaller than the 50mm and 35mm F1.8 lenses, and at between 125mm and 128mm it is slightly longer than the previous models too. Its closest focusing distance of 0.6m (2ft) is a little better than the 0.85m of the other lenses, and it accepts a 77mm filter instead of the 67mm of the 50mm/35mm lenses.
